We were heading for shark and whale country, unfortunately the whales are not here but Great White Shark was on the viewing menu. On our lunch time menu was chick peas, red kidney beans, sweetcorn salad with some bread. We were parked over a white beach with blue mountains at one end. It would be nice to eat in on the beach - there was not a sole on it. The salad was sealed in two pupaware containers that Liz was carrying. You can probally tell that something is going to happen! Well as I led round a bush on the way down to the beach I came face to face with a wild baboon! It was an ambush. These things are nasty and the big male with dinner on it's mind was as nasty as they come.
Oh s***! I started to back up and when out of sight again ran for the car, with Liz just ahead of me. I looked round to see the baboon coming straight for me. At the top of the path the baboon decided to go for Liz and started to overtake me. I looked over and decided Shock and Awe was required. I threw my arms up and let out a raaarght noise. This did not impress the baboon which also decided to do the same but with greater effect. It hardly slowed down as it knew we were trying to get in the car and was now just on the heals of Liz. Liz let out a scream and dropped the food on the wall. The baboon, grabbed the containers and legged it. I watched as it opened the containers straight away and started skoffing. Mugged by a baboon!
The afternoon was farely uneventful (usual beautiful beaches and cliffs I will not bore you with) and we got to Hermanus in good time. A bargain price to see the Sharks when you are in the cage was up for grabs. A 6am start the next day we got on the boat (fortunately not named the same as the boat in Jaws). This did not stop me coming up with quotes from the film that you can tell they heared a million times - but it keeps me happy. In fact it was not too disimiar to Jaws (but with a normal sized shark). It was the way that the crew expected a long wait after starting to put the bait in the water. The skipper (the shark man!) was explaining what he was doing (so a lot of eyes were on him) when me and Liz saw a shark shooting out of the water with the bait in it's mouth and teeth baring. "Anyone want to go in the cage?" said the skipper. "Yep I will have a go!"

Claire Bescoby What happened? Did you go in the cage? Did Lizzie? I got in the cage, too cold for Liz. But did see sharks near in the water.
