The place names here are tricky at the best of times. It is amazing how many people ask "where are you going" and it is almost impossible to pronounce it - so you end up just saying the Ostrich place or Cango Caves. But this is not always good enough. They say do you mean "blardy blar" - er yes! - or do you mean "blardy blar blar" - er yes!
On the way to that place, we stopped off at the 'Sharon' fruit place. Let me explain - we met a guy 'down the pub' that worked there and invited us over for a tasting. Of course when he said 'Sharon' fruit, I said "you what" about a zillion times before the stale mate was released by him saying that that it was a cross between a tomato and a mango.
After the heavy night drinking local tiples, we went there the next day (it was on our route). It was rather embarrasing when the receptionist said no one by that name works here. As we were leaving one of the supervisors asked someone else that appeared to know him. I was asking myself - why did I bother - but we got through it coming away with a couple of Sharon's.
The famous route 62 was the road to take us to blardy blar. It was a desolate semi desert route with lots of passes, wierd plants and seems to go with 'God is an Astonaut' music that we were playing on the car sterio. Bang in the middle was Ronnies Sex Shop - miles from nothing. We had some tea there - as you do, and left before a girl at the bar had decided whether to donate her knickers to all the other pairs of knickers handing from the ceiling.
Ostriches here are like sheep are to blighty - everywhere. To pull in the tourists they have to think up things you can do with an ostrich. And the answer is? - get on it's back and have a race - of course. Will I do it? I will let you know.
No we did not ride the ostriches, instead we went up a road pass (dirt track) and visited the cango caves. This was quite impressive, the tour was spiced up by the adventure pack. Basically you had to squeeze yourself through smaller and smaller gaps in the caves. Liz had a few hairy moments when she was adamant that she could not do it - but when you are pressed up against the rock there is only one thing you can do - go on.
