Today we wake up to the wonderful view of Lake Taupo with the mighty Mount Tongariro a large volcano as the backdrop. Making the most of the free wifi and it being a special nieces birthday (well here anyway!) we have some FaceTime! From here we head to the local i site (tourist information) and formulate today's Adventure. We decide to check in to the local Top 10 site because it has the biggest jumping pillow in N Z ( see pics) why we don't have these back home I have no idea, guessing health and safety. Although we are sold because of the pillow we actually checked in for the location for walking and the thermal pools!!! We arrive, plug in, shoes on, lunch packed and head out onto the walking track towards "Huka Falls". The falls are one of NZs must sees it is a waterfall from water that has made its way out of the lake and through a narrow gauge. Apparently 5 Olympic sized pools of water cascade over every minute and a specially adapted jet powered boat will get you close. We gave the jet boat a miss and 1 hour later we were sat picnicking watching the natural wonder. Wow wow.
On the return journey something extraordinary happened I (Sarah) jumped fully clothed into the hot springs and waterfall ( you may of noticed I don't like water much) this was much to Louise's amusement as we then walked back with the northerly winds slowly turning me into an icicle......We purchased plenty of local veg from the farm shop outside the camp and once suitably wArmed up after a dip in the thermal pools we headed into the kitchen. As we had oven use we had jacket potatoes and batch cooked some yummy healthy veg soup. There are many things we love about NZ and the fresh produce and price is one of them. We can't stop eating asparagus at 50p a bunch.........
