So far on all of our adventures we have never missed out (we have even had more than we bargained for) however today we did! A rather slow start to the day meant that we missed the opening of the dam, (damn!) although on the bright side we got to see the fantastic views of Mount Tongariro on the Circular journey. When completed, we head to "The Craters of The Moon" geothermal walk site. We paid our entrance fee and were suddenly transported into some apocalyptic film set. We spent the next hour walking around a boardwalk peering into mud holes and steaming craters culminating with a climb up a cliff with views of the region. Jaw dropping....From here we make the long journey (3 hours) to the east coast and Napier. Once again the drive and scenery was awesome but upon arrival at "the capital of Hawkes Bay -wine region" we were for the first time disappointed. Firstly we arrived at our first not great freedom camp and the town itself....well we just didn't get it. All the Art Deco lovers would rave, we are sure! Right lets just move..... So we did, once again camper mate to the rescue and we finally pulled into a wonderful site on the beach at a little village called Te Awanu. Plug in....shop found...bar found....beer sampled.
