Now today has got to have been one of the most surreal and craziest days we have encountered yet on our travels......we are packed, the sun is shining and we unplug ready to start the final leg of this adventure towards Chrischurch. Today's final destination is to be the The moeriki boulders on the east coast, well we thought it would be. For various reasons we didn't make it....firstly the day started traumatically, as as we were leaving Queenstown 2 little dogs crossed the highway in front of us and as time stood still fortunately we came to a standstill and they had made it to the other side. I (Sarah) jumped out of the van to round the dogs up whilst Louise pulled over. Assessing the situation we just could not leave, as these dogs were on a busy road and maybe next time they or someone else would not be as lucky.... The dogs made their way into a garden and assuming it was their home I tried to make my way to the door....until I got attacked. All of a sudden it was quite serious and Louise drove into the yard of the house ( a B and B place) whilst I stood keeping them off the road. Now in hindsight it's hilarious and reminiscent of a benny hill sketch. Louise tried to get to the door, the dogs weren't having any of it and then when I was at the neighbours house calling dog control, Louise had to use herself as bait and kept jumping out of the van to lure them back in off the highway.... Now the problem was the property had an electric gate that could not be pulled shut but bizarrely upon stealth like investigation of the front garden I found some plastic fencing, now 10 minutes later I had made a fence. Cue much more hilarity as I am ducking and securing and Louise is being bait. Finally Louise drives out I secure fence, the neighbour Kim is beside herself with our ingenuity and keeps chanting of what an inspiration we are. We are free to leave....suitably shocked we continue and 10 minutes later we have a young German hitchhiker in the van and although we have noticed we are in fact on the wrong road we go with it anyway just for the hitchhikers sake.... Several hours later and a spectacular drive across the mountains and pass via Maori rock drawing we drop the lad off ( no name but hats off, he has been walking for months and is going to continue) in Oamaru. It's too late to get to our final destination but we find a wonderful freedom camp in Campbell's Bay and set about cooking up a storm and watching the surfers. A local has posted that penguins and seals are around so the evening is spent eyes peeled, fingers crossed. Tomorrow we will see the boulders......
