Our cruise landed in Barcelona and was to leave for the transatlantic portion of our journey later that afternoon. We wanted to revisit Barcelona and just get off the ship so we exited the ship and walked across the bridge into downtown Barcelona. It’s about 4.5 kms so not too bad. We didn’t really have a plan except to stretch our legs and walk Las Rambles once again. We started off walking down towards the beach area and checked out the beautiful sailboats docked alongside the walkway, dip our toes in the water and look for cool stones. We circled around after an hour or so and headed towards Las Ramblas. It’s a stretch of road closed to vehicles with shops, vendors and outdoor markets. Performers dressed as knights, cowboys etcetera standing on boxes coated in not sure what are everywhere. They stand perfectly still and only move when money is dropped into their can or cup. I’m thinking they’d move if you tried to photograph them without a donation but not sure. We had no desire to be accosted by a Living statue. Its definitely an art. The architecture and some amazing history surrounded us but weirdly we had no great need to explore yet another beautiful church or museum. We had done a lot of that last trip. We just wandered stopping for a coffee and eventually a gelato and then slowly made our way back to the ship in time to depart. It’s out to sea for us with our first stop being the Canary Islands.
