We had some sun today which we welcomed. Our tour was led by a nice young Montenegrin man. We called him Bob at his request. He was quite humorous throughout the day. We jumped onto a bus and off we went up the mountain. Bob entertained us with historical facts as well as humorous antidotes about life in Montenegro. Only way to citizenship is a 500.000 Euro contribution then you benefit from low taxes, free health and education. Free higher education started the year after he graduated. They do have a Romani population who have migrated up in the mountains. Not sure how they live but you do see some in town begging.
The views from the mountain side were amazing as the port and various bays are magnificent. We stopped for a traditional breakfast including very strong wine. The bread was great, cheese was good but too strong for me and the prosuitto was very nice. Wine, well what can I say it’s wine.
We stopped at a castle and then headed down the mountain which was a little smoother. The way up while the bus was driven by an expert driver included 25 hairpin curves, very very low guard railings (maybe 2 ft off the ground). Now we’re on a tall travel bus, what these guards are supposed to do I have no idea. Anyway we made it back safe.
Our last stop was a walk through historic downtown. A walled area with shops. Street vendors selling sausage and cups filled with fresh donuts. We decided to pass them by (frankly food while enticing is something where there is no shortage on a cruise ship) and walked on our own a little then headed back to the ship. Next stop Naples.
