The first stop in our trip of the Canary Islands. A volcanic wonder to say the least. It was a mountainous region with not much greenery. We had selected a beach day at Playa del Carmen. We loaded onto the bus not unhappy but slightly worried about this beach day as the weather was not great and we’d landed in a not so pretty port area. Anyway our guide quickly explained to us the weather phenomenon where it’s cloudy and cooler on one side of the island but where we were going was most likely sunny and warmer. It changes at the airport. And low and behold it did. The sun came out and we pictured a relaxing day on the beach. We were with our new friend and dinner companion, Heidi and with her around it had to be fun. We were dropped off and walked to the beach. Bill went swimming but I only managed to get wet up to my knees. A little too cool for me. The area was very nice surrounded by volcanic steps and other architectural wonders cut out from the hills. We sunned ourselves and then decided to find a margarita. We lucked out and found a place with seats out front. We shared a pitcher and half of margaritas and some nachos while Heidi proved to us that yet another one of her fantastic stories was indeed true as she had photographic evidence. We finished up and walked around for a bit buying cheesy paper thin Lanzarote beach towels (Heidi’s) fault and then caught our bus. Great day.
