Unfortunately our stay in Mykonos was only a very short one. We could only mange to fit in one night on the island, and it was so worth it.
We caught the ferry early from Athens, and had another 6 am wake up to be on our way at 7:35. The ferry ride took forever. We docked at Mykonos at around 1:30pm. We were both so restless the entire way. Brendan was the worst. He just wouldn't sit still and he refused to buy a kids meal from the food chain on board so he could get a colouring book and pencils, but instead settled with some Internet after we played card games with our Greek sex cards.
Along the way, Brendan flooded a toilet and I reflected the sun into an Asian woman's eyes and got into so much trouble. I copped the worst daggers. And then we copped even more when we were laughing at her husband for snoring really loud. There was also a child that would not stop screaming for about an hour. Luckily they got off at one of the islands along the way, otherwise I was going to make it get off.
When we finally reached the port in Mykonos, I made up a song which of course Brendan hated out of jealousy. There was a swarm of Greeks that were trying to sell accommodation and transfers and taxi drivers trying to take you anywhere. We hopped on the bus which I didn't actually think would make it up the mountain, but thankfully it did. Once we got to the bus stop in town, we had to walk to our hotel and nearly died. The lady at reception was concerned for our welfare because we were panting an sweating like beasts.
We dumped our bags, and headed back into the town to check it all out. We walked through the little white and blue lane ways and browsed the tiny boutique shops, it was so much fun. We ate three gyros each because we have zero self control and can't help ourselves. I think it was because we had used up all of our self control on not hiring a quad bike. We headed back to our room and got changed to hit up the beach. All we had to do was cross the road and we were there. The water was beautiful and crystal clear. I got scared because I got surrounded by fish who were plotting evil schemes which would result in my death. Brendan didn't believe me and thought it was hilarious that I wouldn't move. There were a couple of old wogs blokes in their speedos too, to look at. What a view. Damn. The water was glistening in their chest hair as the rose up from the sea.
After the beach, we relaxed for a whole in our room. Mykonos is supposed to be a party town, but we were wrecked from having to wake up at 6 to get there so we crashed. Also, we're starting to get broke, thanks to Oktoberfest. We ended up having to get up and walk back into town to buy tickets for the ferry the next day to Santorini. All online tickets were booked and we almost got stranded on Mykonos. Oh no. We would've hired a quad bike then. So, we strolled on in and found a travel agent along the beach who was like bam, two tickets. She loved us because we kept telling her how much we loved her because we were going to Santorini. We fought the temptation to get another gyro on the way back to our room and then crashed for the night.
In the morning, we woke up and walked back into town for breakfast. The town was pumpin' with Mick's in fisherman hats selling fruits and veggies. Along with anything not nailed down, of course. We saw two guys carrying a couch into a bank which no one batted an eyelid too and almost got run over by one guy in a small Vespa ute thing.
We headed back to our room to get our s*** together before checking out and walking to the old port. We stopped along the way at a Greek bakery, and Brendan got a sausage roll which was literally a sausage in pastry. I laughed so much at how unimpressed he was by that. We headed down and sat at the port for what felt like forever with the entirety of Japan. There were like at least 100 of them and they were all looking at us with their judgmental eyes for sitting down. Haters gonna hate. When we stood up to catch the ferry, the pounced on the seats. It was like not even 10 seconds!! They were on that. One guy even tried pushing his bag into Brendan to make him move! Lol no. But, we left the seats behind and headed for Santorini!
