Santorini is up there with the best place we've been to so far. It lived up to everything I wanted it to be, and more. I wish we could've stayed longer than two nights. It's so relaxing and beautiful.
We arrived off the ferry from Mykonos to one of the famous santorini sunsets. I was so excited by that. We organised a transfer from the port to where we were staying, and were greeted by a guy with a moustache and a long grey ponytail who had my name up on a sign and was then like get in my van. So that was nice. The little Greek guy at our place was so cute and funny without even trying. He had a thick Greek accent and ripped out a map for us of Santorini. He circled the entire map and then said, "this is map." I was trying so hard not to laugh the whole time. He showed us how to get into the main centre of town and gave us the name of the place with best gyros according to his son, because he no eat so many. We were starving so we headed out in search for the gyros. Brendan hated my impression of him so much, which I did the entire way. "Walk 200 met-ers. You go up this lane here, just like map." And it was just like map. The gyros were pretty good but we were still hungry so we got some basics from the supermarket - alcohol - and then got a pizza to take away and sat by the pool and chilled. We got to hear a couple having a domestic in Greek which, even though we had no idea what they were saying, was pretty funny.
The next morning we woke up and walked into town to hire a quad bike. We walked past one place and I pointed out a green one to brendan. The guy jumped off his seat and for mad when we kept walking. We hired one from one of the shops along the main road and when we drive past him he got so so angry. There were hands flying everywhere it was so funny! We had the best fun on the bike!! We were zooming along the roads and it was so good to not have to walk somewhere for the first time in 9 weeks. We were staying in Fira, so we drove up to Oia first off. We saw donkeys for the first time and my head almost popped with excitement. Luckily brendan was driving at that point because I probably would've swerved off the road. Speaking of swerving, it started to drizzle and I accidentally drifted twice going 11km. Look out sick b****es, there's a new mad b**** in town. Oia is amazing. We walked around there for a little bit and I found a doggy friend. He was so lovely and sweet!! He put his cute little head on my lap for pats and Brendan was getting so cranky and impatient but that's because he didn't have a doggy friend. After Oia we drove back through Fira and I took over as driver. We drive out the opposite way through a few small towns and I took the bike up to 74km. Brendan was scared because I was a bad ass. We stopped at a restaurant in the middle of no where which over looked the volcano and ocean for lunch and it started to rain. Our butts got wet when we got back on the bike. We drive back to the hotel and got a towel to wipe down the seat and then we headed back out. On our way to the hotel, we were stuck in a traffic jam, and a guy lead like seven donkeys through all the cars. I was shattered that my camera was locked away in the trunk thing and couldn't take a photo. A couple rocked up next to us and told us where to go to ride a donkey, which was my main goal for Santorini. Then brendan cut off a car and the guy got so mad. I thought we were going to die. We didn't though. That was nice. We parked our quad bike in Fira and took a cable car down to the old port. We headed back up the hill in style. On a donkey. My donkey was a d*** head. He just decided he was going to stop midway going up the stairs. I tried everything to get it to move but it wouldn't budge. People were going around me on their donkey and I was stuck. Then some guy yelled at it in Greek and spanked it and we were off!! For about two steps before stopping again. Then I tried spanking the donkey. Didn't work. I sat there on this donkey for at least 3 minutes just stuck. Then some Greek guy had to follow me the rest of the way so my donkey would move. He tried to hide amongst a crowd of other donkeys who were just standing along the steps but his disguise was terrible and he got found out and yelled at on Greek again. Then he went ape s*** and decided he didn't like one of the other donkeys and ran up the stairs so he could keep pushing him into the barrier. The Asian girl on the other donkey was so scared and kept going no no no no no and I was laughing so hard! But it was so funny!! He just kept waiting for the other donkey to pass and then he would speed up and push past him and smash him into a barrier! Brendan told me that he has a crazy donkey too who kept running up the stairs and he couldn't control him. Hahaha. After our adventurous donkey ride we headed back to our room because we didn't know what to do. Then we were like, we have a quad bike, let's just keep riding. So we did. For some reason we headed back into Oia, so we visited there twice. We walked around a little more and checked out more of the town. I tried to find my little doggy friend again but he left. We headed back to our hotel after that to rest for about an hour and watched a couple of episodes of modern family. I wanted to watch the subset from Oia, but the quad bike hire man made that impossible as we had to return the bike by 7:30 and the sunset was at 7. We were going to have a picnic and find somewhere to watch it, but we decided to go out to dinner instead because it was our last night in the land of my people. We went to one restaurant where we could watch the sunset and it was super windy. The menu was poo so we had one drink and we were outskis. The second place we went to was much better. They had proper Greek food for our last night and overlooked the sunset. We lost track of time and it got to 7:00 without us realizing. We started to stress because we didn't have our food, and we only had half an hour to get the bike back on time. Brendan decided he would leave, fill the bike up with petrol and return the bike then come back to the restaurant. So we finally agreed on him leaving, and just as he left our food arrived. I had to jump up and run out of the restaurant to chase Brendan. The waiter was so confused. I ran down the street calling his name and told him the food was there and then ran back to the restaurant. The waiter was standing out the front with his arms up in the air confused and looking for me. Then he went inside and was like I don't know what happened. Then I ran in and was like I'm sorry I had to chase him he was leaving! And the waiter thought it was hilarious and the funniest thing and couldn't stop laughing. It really wasn't that funny. But ok mr waiter. We ate so fast, like beasts and basically ran out the door to our quad bike. We jumped on and zoomed down the petrol station, and then back to the rental place where they were waiting for us. 7:30 on the dot. We high fived because it obviously deserved it, and then walked back to our room. The walk felt like it took about 6 years when really it was only about 10 minutes.
In the morning we got a transfer to the airport by the same mustache long hair guy. The airport was tiny and our flight to Athens got delayed because something wouldn't close from what I understood when the pilot took the mic to explain. Eventually, we were on our way back to Athens to catch our next flight to Moscow.
