After leaving Carisbrooke this morning we travelled into Winton. Winton is known for dinosaurs, opals and waltzing matilda. We stopped and had a look at the Waltzing Matilda Centre, we also saw the Corfield and Fitzmaurice building - a general store building from 1916 in great condition. We also stopped at the Gregory Hotel. This is the hotel where Waltzing Matilda was first played in 1879 - how times and entertainment have changed. As we read the hotels history board about how one of Australia's most well known and iconic songs (alternate national anthem) was first played we turned to find the entertainment for the night had arrived - the 'outback adult tour' with some not so classy girls. Maybe it brings in the patrons?.. We then went and saw arnos wall - a wall made of concrete, stone household items and car parts - interesting piece of winton art. We saw the Jolly Swagman statue before looking at the musical fence - pretty much a fence that plays music. They had also built a drum kit and other musical items out of recycled items. Departing Winton we headed for Longreach which will be home for the next three days. Alot of road trains on the highway.
