Josh and I spent three nights at Carisbrooke Station - located approximately 85km south west pf Winton. It's a working cattle station. Charlie and Penny are the owners - really nice people and their backyard is something special. You can camp on their station for $17.00 a night (unpowered) - which is incredibly cheap as you camp around their main dam, the amenities are some of the best so far and you also can purchase a pass that allows you access to explore their station. We arrived mid afternoon on Monday and had a look around the dam and shearing shed. an access pass which allows you access to drive 6 4wd tracks within the station that takes you to the three sisters, paines mountain, lookouts over the williams valley, three sisters and paines mountain, corys range and isles dam. We drove most of the tracks - along the way we found some of the sets used for a french reality show called family explorer that was filmed at the station - the show aired in 2011. At sunset we went back to the three sisters lookout. Beautiful. The station allows campfires (there's lots of firewood around) so it was nice to relax in front of the fire for the rest of the night. On Wednesday we went to Lark Quarry Conservation Park which is home to the worlds only definitive record of a dinosaur stampede. We did the walking track around the park and then did the tour which showed a dinosaur stampede area - was interesting. Was a hot afternoon and we spent it relaxing around camp. At dusk we went for a drive to bottom of the three sisters and took some pictures. Around 6am thursday morning we were woken up to loud mooing and cows wandering aroud our campsite - one was particularly interested in our campfire. Next stop: Longreach.
