With time against we needed to catch the ferry at 2.30pm, so the coastal drive from Kaikoura - Picton was regimented with only short toilet stops. Once on the ferry we were both just hoping it wasn't as rough as the first time. Luckily for us the conditions were much calmer. About ten minutes in the captain announced the to the starboard side he had spotted a whale. So after a few seconds to decide which side to rush to we headed to the right side. Unfortunately Matt only got a little glimpse of the humpback as it came up for air before it swam into the distance.
On arrival at the Base hostel in Wellington free food was served in the bar and then we prepared for our last night with the original bus members. We partied in the room recruiting two knew people - Harry and Alex. It soon became clear that these guys couldn't handle the pace, however they managed to make it into a bar. By this point the group had dwindled due to a few wasted souls but we were just getting started. Harry disappeared for over 20 minutes then it dawned on Matt that he was in the toilets. Managing to open the lock from the outside Matt made him be sick a few more times on which blood started appearing in his vomit. Some of the other guys managed to get him home, leaving the two of us stranded with Alex the other verging on paraletic guy. We made up a series a ways to try and get rid of him.
- Creep him out by dancing really wierd. FAIL.
- Try to make him feel like a third wheel. FAIL.
- Hide in the toilets for 5 minutes in the hope he would think he was alone and leave. FAIL. He left, so we re appear and so does he.
- Last Option was the oldest trick in the book. Just flee the scene when he ain't looking. To do so we had to involve another group of lads who were nearby. WIN. Worked like a treat.
Once we left it soon came to our attention that it was 2.30am and no where else was open. Apart from the most disgusting Chinese we have ever stepped foot in. It will be a miracle of we don't get food poisoning in the near future.
