Nervous Turkey!
Wellington to Picton
The Interislander ferry from north to south NZ the was voyage of today. Unfortunately Matt was feeling the motion of the ocean a little bit and ending up sleeping the full 3 hours. We arrived at the ferry terminal in Picton where we need to spend a day in order to board out kiwi experience in the morning. We spent a full day discussing a dilemma....
As it is time to start booking flights and getting visas for India, we couldn't help thinking of the following:
- We only actually have two weeks there to travel. - The rest of the time will be at the placement for 5 weeks. - It will take £1100 out of our budget to just get there. - We don't really know what there is to do there. (It's huge and it's hard to plan just two weeks), will we just be on a train for two weeks? - Are we trying to fit too much in? Would we be better staying somewhere like Thailand or Kuala Lumpur for a month or two extra and live/work. Would this give us some other experience on our year rather than cramming in places? - Are we missing out by not going? - Could we simply go on a three week holiday another time when back and see the same stuff? - Will we miss out at the orphanage and seeing Indian life that we wouldn't see on holiday.
There was only one way to take our minds off it! CHOCOLATE.
Followed by a walk to clear our minds. Afterward there were two things still lingering. 1) Its not about the money. 2) India is the one place on our year that we purposely wanted to go to be off the beaten track and way out of our comfort zone.
After all it is said to be one of the hardest places to travel in the world.
We both were still undecided so we escaped into our books for a few hours. Suddenly we both just looked at each other and said "Let's do it!".
Decision made final and that was the end of the most mentally challenging day so far. The whole day felt like we all of a sudden had no idea why we were traveling and what were the reasons for it. We are both really happy with the decision and just need to do some solid planning.
