Nervous Turkey!
Queenstown to Lake Tekapo
Today we had some big goodbyes to say to Holly, Daisy & Maddy as they were leaving the Kiwi Ex to stay a little longer in Queenstown. However after 30 minutes we were back, sat in the hostels and having another cuppa with them. The road that we needed to take today was closed due to the severe ice that had built up over night. Rather than been sat on the bus for a few hours, Arias made the decision to take us back to Queenstown. There are definitely worst places to be stuck. We all secretly hoped we would be stuck there for another night. But after a 2 hour delay and a big shop for tonight's family meal we were back on the road heading for Lake Tekapo. A new way of keeping time has been introduced on the bus. We call it carrot o'clock! When everyone starts to get hungry, normally around 11am the majority of the bus pulls out a carrot and a tub of hummus. The group has bonded well over this and newbies even want to join, with a new American couple asking "What was happening earlier on the bus?"
Again we will bang on about the amazing views that were to greet us at Lake Tekapo but they are unreal. A glistening lake stood in the middle of snow covered mountains and the thick snow which had fallen on the ground. Then a little church stood on the side of the lake, it couldn't have been more perfect. After a wintery walk we all settled down around the log fire to spend the night eating, drinking and playing cards. After been roomies for over a week, tonight was our last night with Johannes and Patrick, we will miss these guys!
