Nervous Turkey!
Picton to Kaiteriteri
With a few hours to kill we set off on a walk through the forest in Picton. Unlike when walking in Australia, in NZ you feel at ease as there are no venomous snakes waiting to kill you. The walk took us to a bay where we were able to feast our eyes upon some beautiful star fish.
Heading back with plenty of time to spare, we sat waiting patiently for a drop off to the bus stop. However with only 15 minutes until our bus departed, we learnt that the hostel mini bus had set off without us. With a 17minute walk, we were fighting a losing battle, but the owner made a quick call and the bus flew back.
When booking the kiwi experience, we didn't actual know when it entailed. We presumed it was like the greyhound, you get on, maybe have a chat with someone next to you and then get off at your destination. But no this was completely different. On this bus, you stay together for your whole trip (unless you decide to stay on somewhere a little longer), you stay in a hostel together and complete various activities together.
On arriving at our hostel, the first activity was a pub quiz. So getting stuck in, we planted ourselves with some unfamiliar faces and started to make friends. It turned out we were in the same team as people from our room so the chats continued once back in bed.
A good first day on the Kiwi Experience, however we are not sure what we think about the pub crawl and fancy dress nights in the next few days! We will see....
