LeJoG Blog June 13th: Day 12 Up early to smother on the midge repellant! Little b******s get everywhere! They thrive in June around water, so we had to be ready to avoid ending eaten alive. The "bunkhouse" at Corran was amazing. Left at 9am and cycled into Fort William where we saw "Neptunes Staircase", a fantastic series of Locks on the Caledonian canal.A very interesting ride off-road through the Clunes Forest led us into Fort Augustus for lunch. This lovely little village is a very popular tourist stop as it is at the southern tip of Loch Ness. We decided not to take General Wades high road as we had heard how cruelly steep the many hills were, so opted for the main A82 along the north side of the Loch. Quick, flat, but ridiculously full of tourist coaches, HGV's, Logging lorries. Worst of all are the German camper vans, who just do not give you enough room! Why is that? Answers on a Bratwurst, please. Bloody Sauerkrauts.
Saw Urquhart Castle, famous for being famous.Actually saw 3 Loch Ness Monsters, so don't really understand what all the fuss is about.
Dropped Jamie, Graham's nephew, at Inverness station for his journey home to Edinburgh....thanks for your company, Jamie.
74 miles today, 2900 feet of climbing, 830 miles done, 150 miles left. Piece of cake! Famous last words.SH & GLG
