As we had 4 nights before coming back to Dunedin Holiday Park we decided to spend 2 nights at a cheap DOC site up near Oamaru, and then 2 nights at a powered site on the Otago Peninsular back in Dunedin. After booking the powered site for later in the week, we headed into Dunedin and parked up where we had the day before, for foree. We yet again visited the library to use the computers, and spent a while looking at our finances - we should last until the end of our trip, but will bring a bit of debt home with us!!
We then visited the Otago Musuem, in the heart of 'University Land' - we saw a lot of students walking around, and a lot of Thai takeaways! The museum was quite interesting and had a lot of stuffed animals in it's 'animal attic'. A lot of it was the same as the other museums we've visited here though. After a long walk back to the van, we made our way North towards Oamaru.
There were 2 DOC sites near to each other and we headed to the first one we came to. After a 20km detour down narrow winding roads we found that it was closed due to flood risks in the winter - great! We eventually made it to the other site, which was a lot nicer than the other one, and not as far from the main road. There were already 3 other vans there, which pleased me as I don't like staying places when we're the only van! The toilets were pit toilets, but were fine.
We parked up and cooked dinner on a bench next to the van. As a treat we'd bought ingredients for meatballs and they were delicious! We spent the rest of the night keeping warm in the van and reading.
