Today we got up and got in touch with Chris via skype to wish him a happy birthday (a surprise arranged by Kerry), even though it's not quite his birthday in England yet! It was good to talk to him and Kerry and find out how his travel plans are coming along. We should all be meeting up in Bangkok at the end of February - looking forward to it!
We also skyped home and talked to Mam, Dad and Kelly. Kelly's going to start looking for flights to Australia to meet us in January!
We decided that we'd drive down to Bluff today. Bluff is on the southern coast of the South island and is as far as we can goin our journey from North to South - the next land is the South Pole! In Bluff, we took photos of the signpost (see photo) that told us we were about 4000km from cape Reinga (we've travelled a long way since then!) and also from the South Pole! Then we walked along the Glory Trail, which led us along the coast in the sunshine. The tough bit came when the track turned off into the bush - it was all uphill for most of the way back and was harder than we expected!! Worth it though.
On the way out of Bluff we made two stops - firstly, we called in at the Maritime Musuem which had details of the many shipwrecks on the coast over the years. Not much else there though, unless you're into boats! Our second stop was for some ice-cream at a dairy (NZ for corner shop!), which turned out to be fantastic - Laura had hokey pokey (a famous NZ flavour - vanilla with honeycomb) and I had Jolly Lollies -a bit like bubblegum flavour with loads of jelly sweets in - Ste would have liked it!
On our way back to Invercargill, we stopped for shopping at Pak N Save and headed back to the campsite. We managed to sit outside and get some sun for a while, which we haven't done for a long time! Tomorrow is meant to be 21 degrees, so we might get some proper heat at last!
