We almost got stranded in Cemoro Lawang, the small town near Bromo. After doing the sunrise walk and checked out we went to catch a shuttle bus back to Probolinggo to catch a train to Ijen the next mountain range. Well when we got there there was 4 of us and the minivan driver said we'll leave when there's 10.. Fair enough we'll wait.. Well after an hour and no one showing up we asked around and managed to get one of the locals with an old 4x4 to dive us down to the town for a few quid. Sorted. When we got there the local said the trains aren't leaving till the evening for Ijen.. Which I knew they weren't, and said we could get a bus for cheaper.. Well he put us on a bus.. We told them Ijen.. He said ok, so we paid.. Then about halfway into our journey we stopped off at a small town Jember which we thought maybe we would have to change at.. Well as soon as they saw us they were telling us which bus we had to get on to.. And we needed to pay another 50,000... No no. We've already paid, were not paying again.. After a couple of minutes of arguing, Jord turns a bit Psycho and tells them all to do one! Rather impolitely. So I go and ask someone inside about being charged to go to Ijen and being dropped off half way.. After about 15 minutes of explaining and a massive crowd gathered to see what's happening.. She said we still have to pay, but it's 40,000.. So we head over to bay 6 to get on the bus where we encountered one of the fine gents Jord had told to do one earlier.. and refused to let us on the bus.. Blocked the doors so we couldn't get on and drove off.... Luckily there was a bus parked up with where we wanted to go on it and got on before it was in the bay and Jord could insult anyone else.! The ticket guy still tried to charge us 50,000 until I insisted on my change. Was a shame. Up to this point in Indonesia everyone had been soo friendly and helpful, with families on bikes stopping to tell us where the stations were etc and we'd left Bromo on a high and then people try and scam you and puts you in a s***ty mood! Oh well we got there in the end.. 10 hours later..
