Many more adventures from Oceans. Yesterday I went fishing for the first time.
That's a good joke.
Apparently I was magically supposed to know how to connect a reel to a rod and tie up everything and put bait on a hook. Yeah, I didn't. This was the only frustrating part about fishing in that the field specialist in charge of it seemed too busy fishing himself (someone else could've held his line) and didn't want to help me.
Which is his job.
Just throwing that out there.
Luckily the two guys that were on the trip were willing to aid me and I got all settled.
The group caught two pelagic sharks. I got to name one so I decided to call it "Wayne" (you're welcome, Dad). If it was a girl I was going to name it "Mamaw" for myself... maybe next time.
Then in the afternoon I had volunteered to go with Oceans Aware, the program that works with children and educates them about sharks, to work with their after school program.
Basically this resulted in me and the three other interns on the trip getting attacked by small children. At one point Nick was being chased around/chasing children and being called "Monster." Nick also ended up with ripped pants at the end of the day.
Clearly it was wild.
I got my hair did by a few little girls. I was told it looked lovely. I am sure it did. No way that could go wrong.
All the girls were also fascinated by my hand sanitizer in the kitten holder. Actually, my fellow interns have been intrigued by it as well. Apparently there are no equivalents to the Bath and Body holders in the rest of the world.
Hmmm.... what else....
Today I went to the aquarium. Same ole, same ole. And in the afternoon I did a dissection. A dissection that was in record time, thank you. Megan and I finished in under an hour. Of course without sacrificing accuracy.
Oh but tomorrow I get the pleasure of chumming at 4:30 am. Which is why I will be going to sleep quite early.
If I get up that early and don't see a shark breach, I'm going to throw myself in the water. I swear.
