Saturday, 20 June was our last day in Puerto Merelos. We packed up our room, put on loads of sun cream and walked down the beach towards the fancy hotels... the ones that cleared the seaweed. We had yet to have a proper swim in the stunning turquoise water. After an hour of walking past lots of fancy hotels and not so fancy ones, we stopped for a swim. The water was absolutely gorgeous - warm and clear. We rinsed off in the hotel's outdoor showers and wandered home. We noticed that a lot of the hotel guests were either swimming in the pool or lounging in deck chairs... it seemed as if they weren't too interested in the ocean!?!
Once we were back at our accomodation, we said our goodbyes to the other guests and got a taxi to the bus station. We boarded a small ADO collectivo (similar to a taxi back in S.A) to Playa Del Carmon. We then changed and caught another collectivo to Tulum. Once in Tulum, we caught a taxi to our accommodation - Harmony Glamping.... lots of traveling that day!
Harmony Glamping is a new accommodation place in Tulum town. They have set up permanent tents and decked them out in different themes. Ours way "Ibiza" and had lots of blues and whites and some cute fairy lights. Unfortunately there were stacks of mosquitoes so we were constantly slapping ourselves trying to kill them. We took a much needed showered and went to a place close by recommended by the girl at reception. She wrote down on a piece of paper. what we should order in Spanish. This little restaurant was a family-run joint. We handed over our piece of paper, got nods from the owner and waited.... In Mexico you can get delicious drinks called Aguas Frescas - fresh fruit mixed with water and served in a huge container with lots of ice blocks. They are SO good. The guy arrived back with our food: two giant juices and two plates of the most delicious chicken tacos with sour cream, avo and Chilimole sauce (a black 'mole' sauce with chocolate and a bit of chilli) We were very quite as we ate as the food was incredible. We walked home with full bellies and went straight to sleep!
