We were up early to catch our bus to Puerto Vallarta, and then on to Sayulita. Sayulita is a smaller town 45 minutes north, We had heard about this place from Barrett and Jess who said that this is the only place they come to when visiting Mexico. We traveled for most of the day and on arriving in Puerto Vallarta felt the warm humid air smack us as we walked out the bus station. We caught a local bus to Sayulita and enjoyed the journey through lush scenery. A short walk into town and we arrived at our accommodation - a sweet little studio above an icecream shop. We showered, dusted off our flip flops that hadn't had much ware in the last couple places, and headed to the beach. The water was unbelievably warm and I felt like we had been transported back to Mauritius. We walked down the beach for ages before headed back and finding a cafe to have a drink. We sat and watched the sun dip below the horizon - it was 20:40 by the time the sun set and people were still swimming when we left the beach at 21:00! Restaurants were plentiful around the town so we just made a guess. We have learned that the portions are American Sized so we ordered a portion of beef fajitas to share. A mound of beef, onions and peppers arrived with guacamole and a bunch of flour tortillas. We both ate our full and sat back and enjoyed the music and general festivities around the plaza. A rumble of thunder came from afar and then a loud clap. The heavens opened and people scattered. We sat on our restaurant's balcony nice and snug. Soon the rain died down and we took a little walk around town before returning to our accommodation (with a scoop of icecream from our little shop below) The next few days were filled with sand, suncream, swimming, popsicles and icecream scoops, reading books, eating delicious food, drinking tasty cocktails and fresh fruit juices and late night chats on the balcony. It was blissful and a perfect way to end off the most magical month in Mexico. It was stressful leaving South Africa and the weight of the move and all the unknown was heavy on us. We feel that this month in Mexico has been an absolute gift! We have had the pleasure of visiting and exploring a country we have both longed to visit, spent quality time together and above all, had fun! The fun has helped to lift the weight off our shoulders. Of course, there is still a lot unknown that we will face in the next few days but we feel more rested and ready to face it. Traveling with Kevin has, once again, made me realize how much I love and appreciate him. For someone who doesn't love the spotlight on him, he has stepped up, gone ahead, and made a way for me on so many occasions. I can't count the number of times he has spoken up - often in his limited Spanish - to get directions, find what bus we should catch, ask locals when we should get off the bus. find out what exactly we are eating... and more! Oh, and most importantly, lug a heavy bag with all of our things (which is really 70% my stuff.) Thanks Kevin - you're a great husband and awsome travel partner! I can't wait to begin this next chapter with you by my side.
