Tuesday 21st July Got up and went down to breakfast and afterwards walked up to Edgeware Road tube station but before we got on the train to go to Temple Station tried coffee at Costas whom we had had a good recommendation of. Jannies bucket of flat white was ok but they still have a long way to go to get to my standard at home.
We had another "Free" walk booked in and this time we were to do the Old London Town walk. It had been recommended by a couple of friends.
Margaret was to be our guide but this time the group was too big - about 25 of us. The tour started off not too bad but what with the busy streets , Fleet Street for example and all the churches that Christopher Wren built in the area of the City of London back in the 1600s we had had enough by mid way. There were areas that we couldn't go as there is major construction everywhere and I'm sure if we had been able to walk more of the Thames river bank it would have been more to our liking. Some of the places we went to we had seen on previous trips to London so was a little ho hum.
Jan and I left the walkers at the Tower of London. We had already been inside there on a previous visit. We got the tube to Covent Garden where we would have lunch and a much needed beer. It was very hot and although there was a breeze all day we had sore feet and needed a sit down. We stopped at one of Jamie Oliver's restaurants and had a pizza and a beer. Because we are in England we decided to try a Chapple Down Pal Ale from Kent - well it was a bit too flavoured, had hardly and fizz and well it was a bit like flat ginger ale without the bite of ginger.
I love the tube and a lot of the station names remind me of the times we played Monopoly - Bond Street, Leicester Square, Marlyebone. It's a very easy way to get about London particularly as we had an Oyster Card each.

Sandy Sounds so cool. Monopoly, Jamie Oliver, Gardens. Wish we were there too. I take it an Oyster card is for the mature? :) Good job. ONE DAY we will get there!! xx
