Saturday 22nd August - Royal Mile
We headed across North Bridge which goes above the railway station and is maybe a 100m across. We turned into the Royal Mile which runs from the Scottish Parliament and Holyroodhouse Palace at the one end to the Edinburgh Castle on the hill at the top of the streetbat the other end.
Well there is a street festival on Edinburgh at the moment and there are literally thousands upon thousands of people walking very slowly, stopping and watching all sorts of acts performing on the street.
Imagine circles of people at stopped at 20 metre intervals all the way up the street watching someone performing. We stopped at a few but because of the number of people 4 or 5 deep Jan had difficulty in seeing.
We wandered into a few of the shops and there are hundreds of them all selling all the same sort of stuff. There are tartan shops selling Cashmere, Merino and Wool scarves, kilts, Harris Tweed and lots of souvenirs.
Tired legs and today was meant to be an easy day because of the travel so back to our B&B except there is no B this time. (Breakfast).
We put our feet up to rest before heading out for a Roast Inn not too far away.
Had a Carvery at the Toby Carvery and really enjoyed an almost home cooked meal. Fresh veges and meat and no chips as pub meals tend to have.
