This morning, we were a bit slow to get going, so we thought we might as well go down to the station to have another look at the steam train. When we got there, it appeared to be already pulling out with a puff of smoke, an hour early. We decided to see if we could beat it to the viaduct to catch it crossing there. Even though the road closely follows the track, we couldn't seem to catch sight of the train. Suddenly, it appeared right behind us, when we were close to the viaduct. Just as suddenly, we realised it wasn't a steam train but was a diesel belching smoke! On the bright side however, it turned out to be another famous train, The Royal Scotsman! Now that we were there, we decided to settle in and wait for The Jacobite which duly arrived an hour later, and looked very impressive crossing the viaduct.
Now, definitely off to a late start, we headed off to Glasgow. We travelled via Oban, Inveraray, Loch Long, and Loch Lomond. The weather closed in during the afternoon and we travelled through some heavy rain. We returned the car to Hertz at Glasgow International Airport and then walked about 100 metres to The Holiday Inn which was very convenient.
An interesting finish to the day was turning on the TV and watching a live concert from Edinburgh Castle being performed from the stage which we had seen being erected earlier in the week.
