From River Valley we headed to Wellington and arrived quite late so unfortunately we didn't have time to explore the city as much as we would have liked too. We were up early the following morning to get the ferry across to the South Island, the crossing was a little windy but apparently not as bad as it can be at times. On arrival in Picton we boarded another Kiwi bus and made our way towards Nelson. We passed through Marlborough Valley with its many vineyards. We stopped off at The Village for a free wine tasting of locally grown wines. The tasting itself was nice but unfortunately a little bit basic with only two wines to choose from and I wanted to learn how to taste wine properly.
We arrived in Nelson (apparently New Zealand's sunniest city- and the weather didn't dissapoint) and enjoyed an afternoon walk around the town. We stayed in a really nice pub where we enjoyed free beer tasting (which was a lot better than the wine tasting) in the evening. The accomodation was lovely and we had a really nice evening.
