That morning we made our way to Waitomo an area with many caves under the farmland. Our hostel was really nice and we got a lovely en suite twin room for no extra cost! That afternoon we did the 'Abyss' Black Water Rafting. It was so scary! We had to abseil down into the caves (wearing full wetsuits, gumboots & helmets) the abseil was so scary that I cried before doing it but the guide was so nice & helpful. We abseiled downwards and had to pass through 'the throat' a narrow entrance before reaching the actual cave. From there we walked towards a tunnel which we zip lined down in the pitch black darkness before reaching the bottom. Then we had a warm cup of tea and a flapjack inside the cave- just what was needed in the cold! The next part of the trip involved getting into the water and tubing down the underground river looking at glow worms in utter darkness- again scary but amazing to do! We waded the rest of the way against the current before having to climb out of three waterfalls! We had such an amazing time and I was very proud of myself!
