We left Westport and drove down State Highway 6 taking in the rugged Tasman shoreline and other diverse landscapes from farm land to the Southern Alps. We drove to Cape Foulwind where we had the chance to walk and see one of New Zealand's largest seal colonies, we saw loads of them and they were so cute!! After leaving there we took another walk to check out the Punakaiki Pancake Rocks and blow holes. The pancake rocks are made from limestone and over time have been eroded to give the effect of giant piles of neatly stacked pancakes. We were lucky enough to be there at high tide so were able to see the blowholes spitting out water & creating a rainbow in the sun- very pretty. After leaving Punakaiki we stopped off in Greymouth to pick up costumes for tonights Poo Party, which had a letter theme of S & M (meaning you can dress up as anything beginning with those letters). 10km further South we stopped off at Hotel Mahinapua owned by a legendary guy called Les. That night we ahd loads of fun getting our outfits together for the party. I went as a superhero - wearing a tiara, red cape & leggings. Whilst getting ready we also helped to handmake Matt's costume of a Mohawk Indian, which involved hand cutting and stitching a vest and skirt as well as shaving a mohawk into his head! Needless to say he won the best dressed competition. The night was loads of fun with a delicious BBQ, loads of dancing & games. We had so much fun that night with the group and made some great friends for the rest of the trip.
