Kate's Chronicles
Finished the last quarter of teaching with a wonderful picnic/BBQ in the park with a group of students. They arranged everything including picking us up from the apartment. One of the boys picked me up and I hopped on the back of his motorbike...think he was quietly chuffed to have a foreigner on his bike as he asked me to wave to everyone we passed and say hello....needless to say I was happy to oblige!!! One of the girls bought her guitar along so we talked and sang as they prepared a lovely spread of food for us all to enjoy. It was really nice to spend some time with the students away from the classroom even though I wont be teaching them again as most of them have passe and will be moving to Upper Intermediate.
We are now into the third quarter of teaching and I have 2 new classes of Intermediate students. They seem to be very nice kids and are far more confident to talk in class which makes my job easier. I am team teaching with a new teacher this quarter and we have split the days into 2 hours with each class. I am going to focus on reading and writing and he will focus on speaking and listening. Not sure how it will go as yet but am willing to try the 2 hour split for a while....if it doesn't seem to be working we can go back to the 4 hour lessons. The weeks seem to be flying by and they will be having their mid term exams in 2 weeks. Seems we only just start teaching and it is exam time!!!
Life goes on here.... go into town at least once a week and ensure I have a good meal and a massage. Still don't like having to cook for myself but have no choice as one does have to eat. Had a nice night out for one of the teachers birthdays where we ended up at Karaoke until 2am.....and I still cannot sing to save myself...but it was all good fun.
Not a lot of travel undertaken but did spend last weekend in Saigon. Has a great time with a few of the girls wining and dining, spas and shopping. I don't particularly like Saigon but it does make a nice change to be able to go out to a decent restaurant for dinner. We only have one restaurant close to where we live which offers Japanese cuisine which I have to admit is not my favourite. Oh well have to make the most of what is available!!!
We are heading into the wet season so have had some spectacular storms lately. It is still very hot during the day but by late afternoon the dark clouds come over, the wind picks up and then it buckets down with rain for short while......only to get hot again!!
Am expecting some visitors from Australia in a few weeks and feeling excited. It will be so nice to see some familiar, friendly faces and catch up on all the news. Am meeting up with them in Saigon before they head off to see the rest of the country. Only a short visit but it will lift my spirits no end.
That is about it for now.....life goes on
Bye for now. xx
