Mount Cook started off wet and cloudy, and the views around Lake Pukaki on the way weren't at their best. Fortunately for us we were coming back this way after Mount Cook... and this time the weather was gorgeous! Again, the lake was turquoise and Mount Cook and the Southern Alps in the far distance looked amazing. It was lovely to get a chance to see this, but even more amazing was to stand at the foot of Mount Cook by the glacial lake with small icebergs in it on the Hooker Valley track. This track passed an Alpine memorial, to all the mountaineers that have died in this National Park, and then continued along the Hooker River - crossing two swing bridges to reach the hooker glacial terminal lake at the foot of Mount Cook, it was a gorgeous day, and a walk worthwhile. Definitely worth the wait after drinking Mocha's and Hot Chocolates all day in the Mountaineers Café the previous day due to terrible weather. However this way a great day, sat near the log fire, playing cards and completely relaxing. Whilst at Mount Cook we caught an amazing glimpse of the sunrise one morning with a bright orange glare on top of the snowy peaks… so we decided the last morning to wake up early and watch the sunrise. It was beautiful, Mount Cook looked so clear, with the light reflecting off one side of the peak... it was incredible to watch, well worth getting up for. That morning we took a walk to the Tasman Glacier, the largest glacier in New Zealand, however it was covered in a lottle of debris at the bottom end of the glacier, but the lake the glacier was feeding had really cool icebergs in it and was really impressive, as was the view of Mt Cook from the other side, which we hadn't seen yet. The whole surrounding environment was amzing and well worth the walk to see it!!!
