Here goes... the place that I had been really looking forward to - Fiji...
One word that sums fiji up is PARADISE!! Wow, we had such an amazing 14 days on the stunning Yasawas islands, island hopping from one gorgeous island to another. We booked a two week package with Awesome Adventures - "The Tropical Awegasm", where you spend 2 days each on 6 different Islands. We wanted to treat it more like a holiday - having someone tell us where to go and when! Relaxing, resting, and doing every possible activity as usual.. haha!! Chris just cant sit still!!!
After spending one night on the main island, and eating a BBQ dinner with Andy and Marc, A German couple that we met, we headed on the Yasawa Flyer to the Infamous Bounty Island, where the Celebrity Love Island was filmed! We had a beautiful day to start off our island hopping adventures, and the island definately lived up to expectations, Stunning!! You could walk around it in 20 minutes.. surrounded by coral reef with great snorkling and clear turquoise waters!! Our bure was right on the beach, looking out onto the other islands, magic! We were greeted by the Fijians in their brightly coloured shirts, with their traditional welcome song, all smiling and genuinely happy to meet us all. We could tell we were gonna love it here!! The food on this island was amazing, put it this way I would happily pay for it in a restaurant back home!! I think however, we were definately pampered here, as the food on most of the other islands wasn't a patch on Bounty!! On each of the Islands the locals specify one particular activity for us to enjoy whilst there, on this island it was 'Cocunut Bracelet Making'. We found small coconuts around the island, peeled them to reveal the coconut, sanded them down with a stone slab and sand to smooth the 'hair' on the coconut and then used tools to cut the two ends of the coconut off, not before drinking the coconut milf first. We then pealed out all the coconut leaving us with the hard shell. Navi did mine but Chris attempted his own, messed it up so he sanded down another coconut which took him ages and then put this one into the vice to saw and tightened it to much causing the whole coconut to explode, he wasn't happy! So much preparation and got knowhere haha!! I was happy with mine though, they look like they're from Topshop!!! We met some great people on this island, snorkled the beautiful reefs, drank our first dose of Kava - which proved to have no effect (only a tiny tingle of the tongue!!), played some funny games at night - including the 'balloon game' which me and Chris won, winning a Baileys, banana Licqour and ice cream cocktail, amazing!
After such an awesome introduction to the islands we moved on to Kuata. This was a much bigger island. The islands are quite similar but all offer different activities. It was here we got to go reef shark snorkelling. This was a great experience, however they were only small sharks about 1-1.5 metres. The boat ride out was so painful due to the speed the guys were going but it was definitely worth the trip. Half way we stopped and the Fijians went spear fishing to get some fish to feed the sharks, which was interesting to watch. We snorkelled with the sharks for about 45 minutes, weaving in and out of us all, even getting to touch them!! Even though they were only small I still wouldn't upset them. We also went sunset fishing while on Kuata. Two boats of six people went out and I was the only one to catch anything, it was a red snapper. Only small but at least I caught one, we were using chicken as bait. At first I couldnt pull it up and I thought it was huge so Chris took over and he couldn't budge it either, the fish had obviously swam around some coral, it eventually loosened off and i started fishing again - quickly checking to see if the bait was still on the hook - and there was the fish!! haha, it gave me a real shock as I didnt think I caught anything!!!I named it Bertie also, first time catching a fish I think its necessary to give it a name!!hehe......
