We really enjoyed Wanaka, famous for its beautiful turquoise lake. The whole town seems to centralise its activities around it - from activities such as jet boating to skydiving. It was hear that we were planning on doing our skydive as the surrounding scenery of all the mountains e.g. Mt Aspiring is meant to be amazing, however the weather did not allow it and on our one perfect day we had there they were fully booked, so we were going to have to find somewhere else to get rid of our adrenaline. Instead we decided to take the 6 hour return climb to Mt Roy, of which we could see Mt Aspiring and the panoramic views of Lake Wanaka and the surrounding Mt Aspiring National park. The walk was quite hard with steep, but winding paths to minimise the effects of such a steep gradient. After a short amount of time we began to see more and more of the lake, which looked beautiful. About three quarters of the way up there was a narrow ridge looking over the other side of the lake, and over Mt Aspiring. The views from here were amazing, however the wind was beginning to pick up so we quickly moved on towards the summit. After about 3 hours we reached the summit and were rewarded with breathtaking panormaic views. Luckily we got the most perfect day and the autumn colours, contrasting with the lake just looked out of this world, giving us a real feel good factor after such a hard climb. The next day had turned bad again, tut, so we took a visit to the popular Puzzling World, which was seriously fun! It was like play time for adults. Basically the whole place is designed to amaze and puzzle you, with so many things such as the outdoor Labyrinth, a 1.5 km maze, which proved very difficult to reach the finish. After a while Chris's stomach was getting the better of him and we had been in the maze for about an hour, still struggling to find our way out but we didnt give in. There was no way Chris was going to let me complete it without him at the finish line with me haha!! It was quite funny, there was other people trying to complete it, walking past us every so often and we would just look at each other and pull a glum face at each other. We walked past them so many times it started to get a little awkward as we had run out of different facial expressions. it got to the point where you would just walk past each other and not bother ackowledging each other anymore hahahaha. In total it took us about 1.5 hours in that drizzly sort of rain that cant make its mind up whether to pour it down on you or stop lol. The leaning tower of Wanaka outside the front of Puzzling World was pretty cool, which leans at 53 degrees, whereas the Leaning Tower of Pisa leans at 6 degrees, however the size difference could be the reason for that haha. It was funny to take pictures looking as though we were holding it up though and in other naughty positions, woopsy!! Indoor, there were 4 awesome illusiom rooms, one of which gives the illusion that I am a giant and Chris is a dwarf, now that was funny!! There was also a room of following faces,a little freaky but really impressive, with world famous icons such as Nelson Mandella, Van Gough and Abraham Lincoln to mention a few. The other room was at a tilt surrounded by mirrors giving the illusion that you could lean right forwards without falling over. Another example was of a snooker ball rolling up hill by itself. Hard to explain put quite realistic. Even the toilets were entertaining with the Roman style toilets giving the illusion that you are sat there with the other romans on the squat holes using the toilets, we had some fun with that!! Chris quickly wacked his trouser's down while knowone was around and took a pose for the camera with the Romans, hilarious!! At the cafe there a number of large round tables with every imagineable puzzle you could think off, to solve while having coffee and a cake. Even part of the ceiling was like a giant Kaliedescope. It was like kids playtime haha, with loads of adults enthrauled by the puzzles sat before them. We figured some of the games out but to us some were just impossible, as many know patience isn't Chris's strongest virtue haha!
Whilst in Wanaka we werre also going to check out a movie at the old school movie theatre. We got there, and it was like a small house. There wasn't any movies that we were particularly bothered about that night but you sit there watching the film in cushty sofa's and they stop the film half way for refreshments, it was completely old school but looked like an interesting experience, definitely an iconic cinema if ever we saw one. Next we face the tough decision, Fox Glacier guided walk.. or the Franz Josef.. hmmm!!
