What a great time we had in the Calgary/Okotoks area. We were very lucky to be able to set up our trailer at our friends Barb and Blaine's place. They have a very beautiful "homestead" complete with 2 horses, a donkey and a mountain view if it is not raining.
We also were lucky in that we got to see Michelle and Matt!
On Thursday June 19th, Barb, Blaine, Jack and I headed out to Drumheller to see the land of the dinosaurs. The Royal Tyrrell Museum is an amazing museum with lots of real artifacts as well as many many recreated dinosaurs from casts that they have taken from bones that have been found in the area. This museum is a must see if you are ever in the area! It is in the Canadian badlands as well so you really get the feeling of being were the dinosaurs roamed.
On the Saturday, Michelle, Jack and I headed to Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump to see where the hunting of buffalo took place. As it was National Aboriginal Day we were even treated to some Native dancing and drumming, we learned a Native game and enjoyed mint tea and Saskatoon Berry Soup as well as Saskatoon Berry/Strawberry/Rhubarb Soup. They were all delicious.
On Saturday night Barb and Blaine's son Mark and his wife Valerie were holding a huge party. Lots of trailers were set up as well as a food truck. Jack got to jam with Blaine, Johnny, Ken and Bud (who we had previously met in Mexico).
It was a fantastic time - oh yeah - and we even sold our truck to their neighbours James and Sabine and bought a new 2011 White Dodge Ram!
