Lago Quicoche, street food, new friends and MACED!
We headed by bus in the morning to Lago Quicoche because we were told to go in the morning when the weather is normally good and the volcano is exposed. But again the weather was not on our side as the volcano was engulfed in clouds the whole time we were there! It was still a beautiful volcanic lake and we took a boat trip around it with a stop to see the volcanic gas bubbles coming up from the water, pretty cool!!!
There was a small trail to walk so I talked mom into it and she was happy I did! I flagged down a truck to give us a ride back to the town so we can catch a bus and he told us to jump in the back. The back of the truck was covered by a black canvas tarp and the ride was, to say the least, nerve-racking. But we made it alive and headed to the market for a bite to eat..... Delicious pork and pork skin.....mmmmmmm!
Back in Otavalo, the clouds cleared, the sun came out and we got pictures of the volcano in the afternoon from the top of the hotel. That night they had set up some restaurants on the streets in preparation of the Saturday market so we found one and ate some food. While we were eating we made friends with a local couple who asked us to come with them for a drink after we finished eating. But before we were finished eating apparently some guy pissed off some other guy and chased him down the street spraying mace everywhere! Before you knew it our eyes and lungs were quite irritated so I scooped up mom out of the seat and carried her away from the street! The lady who owned the restaurant lit paper on fire and wafted the smoke around our faces which seemed to help quite a bit so I learned something new!
After the situation was under control we hopped in our new friends car and went for a couple drinks! They invited us to go with them the next day to a Hot Springs so I gave them my number and said call me!
