Jono's Travels
Really early morning start today, up at about 4:15am to get showered, have breakfast and then make our way to the ferry terminal for a 6 hour trip to Mykonos. Conner and Imogen also leave to Egypt today but will join us again in Turkey in a few days time. Breakfast gave us a small opportunity to meet some of the other guys, Meg from the states who went to the same school as Ryan, a new Ryan also from the states who we have named Tall Ryan, and Damien and Lieu from Australia (great, more Australians) actually come to think of it, the kiwis on this trip at the moment are outnumbered by the Americans as well, well until Conner returns in which case we will match to American numbers. After making our way to the ferry and boarding, we found that the staff onboard the ferry were pretty rude, advising we couldn't sit in certain places and trying to buy something from them over the counter was not a pleasant experience, no smiles, no greetings, just a grumpy look like they just want you to hurry up. Upon arriving in Mykonos however was a different experience completely. Upon arriving we jumped into a small minivan and were transported to our accommodation for the next couple of nights. There were a few too many people for the van, so we had some standing in the back, another sitting on someone else's knee and then a couple of other random people sitting on the floor. As we arrived at the accommodation the first thing we could all see was the bay with water so perfectly clear you could see to the bottom. It looked so clear, but we first had to get our security bands and breakfast passes before making our way to our rooms and quickly changing. We all headed to the pool and layer in the deck chairs. We had some great people serving us, gay as anything, but really friendly and the customers just loved them. I accidentally made the mistake of saying 5 buckets of bear instead of a bucket of 5 bears to one of the guys who said, "Oh my friend, if only I met you years ago, I would love a man who can drink so much". We also had George coming around serving us, taking our food orders and drink orders, very friendly guy who told the girls when they went up to the bar to go and relax and he would go over and take their orders. The heat was coming down hot, so certainly need for sunscreen, unfortunately the bottle I had brought when I got to Nice was completely used up so I had to go buy some more, about NZ$45 for a normal tube of sunscreen, for something I could buy for NZ$16 back home, gutted, but hey, they count on people like me. Relaxing by the pool it was time to jump in and relax in the refreshing water. I can't say how long we chilled by and in the pool, but who cares, it is Mykonos and we were there to relax. We were meeting up at 9:30pm to head out to a club over at one of the other bays, called Paradise bay. In order to get there we took a walk over the hill onto a track that we needed touches from our phones to be able to see where we were going, most of the guys had their phones with them so it wasn't an issue. We arrived and were one of the first groups to arrive, so we just started off with a free shot at the bar along with getting our faces painted before beginning with 2 for 1 cocktails. They were pretty weak drinks so it would take a lot to get anyone drunk. But hey, it was 2 for 1, which probably means the same dosage of 1 drink in 2 cups. We partied into the night and Ryan and Fabian had a wonderful time dancing on the poles that were mounted to the tables, another Topdeck group turned up and at one point ended up a dance off breaking out against them, they didn't stand a chance. We also spotted a group of about 3 girls who literally spent about 15 minutes (if not more) just taking selfies, I photobombed a few of the pics, and Damien joined in for a couple more. All and all a great night.
