Jono's Travels
I can confirm today that Sharie was right, I have an ear infection which means I'll need to organise getting some more Antibiotics for my ear now, Sharie suggests ear drops so hopefully they work. As we are travelling today to Belgrade in Serbia I'll need to wait until we get these before I can get some, that's going to be at least 5 hours or so. Passing through the boarder today was rather easy compared to previous days, not so much of a wait and they didn't stuff anything up with the passports this time so that was good. Once through the border it was onto Belgrade. We drove to our hotel which from the outside looked like one of those buildings you see on the English movies where people are all staying in there scummy buildings that look like they are run down... We went into and up a few flights of stairs to find the inside was looking a bit better but but showers and toilets smelt as bad as the outside looked. Rooms were all right, although it appears Health and Safety isn't as high a priority here as it is in NZ, maybe NZ just takes things too far, after all, my Power socket by my bed was falling out of the wall with the wiring exposed... and that is fine. After getting settled, we headed into town to take a look around, or in my case I wanted to try and get some ear drops. We got to town which was a lot nicer than the area we were staying, surprising seeing we were only 3km down the road. We were shown a couple of the blown up buildings which were related to the Serbian war, it really just looked like a couple of buildings left over from a earthquake, but as they are just in the beginning stages of rebuilding them, all the rubble had been cleared away. We got dropped off into town by the coach and made our way to look for something to eat, along the way picking up some ear drops. We found a nice restaurant called TIME, and chose to eat there, only problem we had with it was the amount of smokers that say around us, it's so weird having so many people smoking these days, just so not use to it back home anymore. The food was real good and after than we decided to head back to the hotel. We began walking back to the train, but in the end decided we would just want back as it was only a couple of kms back from where we were, and this allowed us to see more of the place. Along the way back the girls (mainly Sharie and Imogen) somehow got into singing nursery rhymes, it was funny hearing songs like "Mary had a little lamb" and "Incy Wincy Spider", they did pretty well seeing we had walked about 1km before they ran out of songs, after that they decided to sing the Australian National Anthem. Thank goodness we were almost at the hotel by that stage. We got back to the hotel and I headed to my room to get the ear drops in, this was a great opportunity to watch some stuff on my iPad, after an episode or two I got up and headed out to the common room, only to find a large fort Conner had made out of cushions. It was funny to watch him play, I headed back to my room and continued to watch some more shows, only to hear a short while later a bit of noise coming from the Common Room, turns out it was the security guard. Apparently he wasn't too impressed with the fort, he wanted to know who built it, eventually finding Conner in it, he told Conner to come out, to which Conner had replied with an invite to join him in the fort. I think that was enough to break the ice as the security guard broke out some vodka and the all drank a shot each and he was their new best friend the rest of the evening. It was about 10pm and some were hungry... So, what do we do, we get pizza, it was ok, very oily pizza, but it was enough to fill the gap. I then headed back to bed to try and get some sleep.
