Jono's Travels
Travel Day today, back on land and we are going to be heading from Plataria to Athens. I woke this morning struggling to get up, but I knew we had a boat inspection today to make sure it was clean before we could leave. I grabbed the rubbish and dropped that off in the bins, only to find when I got back there was a least another 4 bags of rubbish that needed to be tossed as well. After the boat inspection we said our farewells to our captains and boarded the coach to Athens. This was a great opportunity to sleep a bit, as most of us were tired and the music that was put on just helped us doze off. The drive was rather long today, however a lot of it was part of a rather newish motorway, now I say newish as apparently it's taken at least the last 6 years to get it to where it is now. But Ronnie seemed happy with the progress, the only downside is that they new motorways meant that we had no idea where we would be able to stop to get some food. We finally found a stop at some random little cafe and some of us got a kebab each, to find it was simply a single kebab on a stick, a real small kebab, but it was enough to tie most of us over for a couple of hours until we got to a better spot to have a feed at the Corinth Canal which is a canal that they cut into the land just a bit over 5km in length to allow boats to travel to the other side of Greece without having to sail around, this also meant that part of the land is now technically an island. After lunch we carried on to Athens and did a quick tour around the city taking in some of the sites like the Olympic stadium and of course a look (from a distance at least) of the Parthenon. We checked in and all had a chance to have a shower before we headed downstairs to meet the new people joking our tour, we then found out that we didn't actually need to attend the meeting, so instead we headed upstairs to the roof and had some drinks overlooking the city and at re Parthenon.
