Well we arrived in Agra this morning at around 8.30am, luckily our train was on time and only took just over 2 hours from Delhi. We got a bit worried when we were waiting for our train and they were announcing that some were delayed by 20 hours......
We were met in Agra by hoards of young children begging and rickshaw drivers trying to lure us into their vehicles, complete madness.
As we drove through the streets of Agra to get to our hotel we found it to be even more crazy than Delhi, we didn't think this was possible. It feels more county like here, as far away from city life as possible.Cows own a right to the road as much as any vehicle, there are also lots of stray dogs, puppies and goats roaming around. They are all harmless though and don't come near you which is good.
When we arrived at the hotel I don't think Jonny could have had a bigger grin as there was a Pizza Hut right next door......think tea tonight is sorted haha. After checking into our hotel we were off to the Red Fort which after an hour and a half of being guided round and learning some amazing facts of the building and its history we had only covered 25% of the fort, the other 75% still being used by the Indian army.As you can imagine the place was humongous and very interesting.
We then went out for some lunch with the group to another local Indian restaurant, both of us still not feeling quite adventurous enough to try some meat we both had a dish which consisted of potatoes stuffed with fruit and cheese in a creamy tomato kind of sauce with rice and naan, which actually turned out to be really nice.
We had some time to spare so our tour guide suggested we visit a carpet making factory.....somehow for the 2nd time in 2 days we have found ourselves being pressured into buying carpets?? Anyway we managed not to buy a carpet and are really hoping we have seen the last of the carpet sales. We have also decided that if mum (Ann) was to come here she would have now bought at least 6 carpets, all the toys the kids are selling on the street, lots of random Indian pieces from the stalls and maybe even tried to take one of the cute Indian babies home haha.
Then.....off to the great Taj Mahal.WOW.As you have seen in the photos this place is unbeleiveable it felt surreal to be there. We spent almost 2 hours walking around, taking photos and watching the sunset, truly amazing to see.We really are now wondering if we could be famous in India as again we were bombarded with people asking for photos of us, one man even gave his baby girl to Shay and took photos, its so strange.
We have just been out for some more Indian food for tea.....it was good, but we have both had enough of Indian food and just want a Pizza Hut or something lol.
The weather has been ok so far, a lot colder than we thought, especially at night. Both the hotels we have stayed in so far have been nice as well, very basic but clean, so thats the main thing. We have a 7.30am start tomorrow with a 6 hour bus journey to Jaipur, so its off to sleep for us.
Namstae (also goodbye in Hindi)
