Today we headed out early for Yosemite National Park, reaching the eastern entrance by about 8am. It was a cold but sunny morning - lucky for us the day was going to be hot as I have turned the car into mobile clothes line after doing some washing at a local laundromat last night. (Peter was horrified at some of the clothing I had drying on the back seat!)
We were stunned at the beautiful scenery as we crossed Tioga Pass into Yosemite and the drove over Tuolumne Meadows on our way to the visitor's centre. We stopped and took photos of the sights such as El Capitan, Half Dome, Glacier Point, the giant sequoias at Tuolumne Grove (a one mile hike downhill to get to them and a strenuous hike back up the hill to the car) and Tenaya Lake.
The afternoon was spent travelling south through towns of Bishop, Independence and many other as we drove alongside the magnificent Sierra Nevada Mountain range. After a big 400+ miles driven today we stopped for the night in Barstow on historic Route 66. Tomorrow we'll explore the museum before we make the drive to Laughlin in Nevada.
