Enjoyed our stay in Vac, but time to move on......Travelling to Romania today! 130 miles so far with 60 more planned. Satnav is reckoning on 2.5 hrs to cover that distance - which is a bit worrying! Have also noted that Hungary has a relaxed approach to road safety as they were constructing a bridge over live traffic on the motorway earlier! Landscape has been very flat and empty since leaving Budapest - just crops of various sorts - bit boring.

Been to Budapest today by train. Giving the bikes and our bums a bit of a rest. Beautiful city - especially when viewed from the river. Still on train after 2 hours on our way home. It should only be 30 mins so this represents excellent value (time per pound) from our 4 pound return ticket. (Actually only 1 hr 15 mins, but felt like 2 hrs for some!)

Have now entered Hungary. First shop we saw was Tesco's and first restaurant was McDonalds! Landscape very flat for first 50 miles. Passed lots of disused factories, chemical works and cement works. Stopped at Esztergom for a break (the old capital of Hungary), and saw the basilica and old gov buildings. Scenery got much nicer as we headed east. Crossed the Danube by ferry (a barge pushed by a tug), and now staying in Vac - a very nice little town just nort...
