Saturday, July 5:

We ended up sleeping in a bit late and so didn't get out of Clare until about 11:00. We had a long drive ahead of us if we wanted to make it to Coober Pedy, the Opal capital of Australia and also the land of mystery where people just go missing for no apparent reason! We got to Port Augusta at about 1:00 and after a quick lunch were headed North to the Outback. There wasn't too much to see, just sand and scrubby bushes and lots of pavement. We were all holding our breath that the car would hold up the entire way. We arrived to Coober Pedy at 7:00 and found the first caravan park with a gate that we could find. It was an early night and a cold morning the next day!
