Sunday, July 6:
We left Coober Pedy headed toward the Northern Territory and Alice Springs, the town in the centre of Australia. The road was long, lonesome but surprisingly beautiful with all of the vast open spaces and strange, white pyramids of the Coober opal fields. We drove and drove and drove some more and made it to the border in time for lunch, a few pictures of the sign and then back on the road. Alice Springs was a welcome sight at about 5:00 pm where we checked into the G'Day Mate Caravan Park. The man working the registration told us all about the Sunday Roast at the Heavitree Pub where there was also a reptile show that night. We went and checked it out…so glad we did. There were snakes, lizards and a really good dinner. We also met a family travelling from Queensland and Layla made a good friend in Grace, their 9 year-old daughter. After a long fun night we headed back to the tent and settled in for a very cold night!
