We head out early checking out the glacier on route and drive south to Lake Louise - were really looking forward to this, everyone has said how beautiful it is!
On route we spot a Black Bear munching in the grass and a few more Chipmunks. We get to Lake Louise about 2.30pm it's amazing! The best lake we've seen, just sheer beauty, huge reflective clear waters with a jaw dropping backdrop of snow capped mountains, the water is so transparent you can see every stone and branch on the lakes bed. It's even slightly frozen in parts but obviously thawing with little patches of detached ice slabs floating past on the surface. It's pretty busy, understandably, and has a native Indian, dubious on the native, standing by the lake ready for pics at a small fee - he's a busy man everyone is queueing up for the snap with the big chief. Matt heads straight for the waterside, shoes off and he's soaking his legs - man it's cold! Jacq braves it but can't stick it for too long, you really could sit and look at this lake all day though - it's unreal, sadly we only have a half hour as we need to be out of the national park by 4pm when our permit runs out so we make tracks.
We drive through some of Yoho national park and exit by 4pm on the dot!
We decide to head for a nearby town called Golden to make our stop for the night picking up some groceries at the local Iga on route. We find an RV site at $40 a night and decide to abuse the Wi-Fi calling home. There are literally no mosquitos here - bliss! So, we sit outside with our fire some whiskey and end up chatting away to the guys next door who work here. A couple of songs later and the guys girlfriend who runs the office has a complete hissy fit - shouldn't laugh but she goes mental at him, it's not even that late and we're pretty quiet only explanation seems to be he should not be having fun and get to bed - in stitches as she shouts some pretty expletive profanities i.e. f word, c word, more f words - poor guy!
We call it a night - he has our sympathy!
