We're still following our plan of 3 hour drives a day, at least we're trying to! 2 weeks to do this journey is a bit much so we have to spread it out thankfully there's just so much to see!
We make tracks driving to Liloet on route Jacq spots a big black Bear in a piece of land next to someone's house just munching on the plants - we turn around and get a good look at him - boy is he big! He's gorgeous though and starts to walk away, his butt is the biggest by far and does a little shake from side to side as he navigates through the shrubbery, as we drive further more wildlife - we see three deer literally waiting to cross the road! We stop and wait as they cross and jump up the mountain opposite climbing through the rocks - didn't know deer could do that!
We reach Liloet which is a bit like a ghost town and the sat nav finally kicks in, we follow it down a dodgy dirt road to Fountain Lake. Jacq is worried we're going the wrong way but after 15 mins it pays off - Fountain Lake is stunning!!!! It's a huge lake with an evergreen filled hill on your right, fish are jumping out of the water, little boats are dotted around it trying to catch the fish, the perimeter is nicely filled, not overcrowded, with locals camped up for the weekend, there's a huge mountain ahead snow-capped and reflected in the lake - it's awesome, majestic, stunning, you get the picture.
We find a spot with all the above in perfect view, it's another $12 donation job, this place would be rammed if everyone knew about it - that blog is really paying off! We sit in our camp chairs staring out at the mountain watching the kids next door head out in their boat fishing, Jacqs reading "the last juror" John Grisham, Matts playing his guitar which is now almost full of stickers from everywhere we've been.
This place is perfect, our window view is insane!
Matts straight on the fire it's jacket potatoes sausages and beans all cooked on the fire tonight!
We are literally looking out over a lake and thankfully the bugs don't seem to be that bad. There's a family on our right from Valmont who introduce themselves - Regan, Courtney and Wesley Lewis and they have with them an adorable 2-year-old called Mason.
He's beautifully mischievous and reminds us of Jonah! He's having a ball playing in muck (bit too mucky though) cooking his sausages by the fire and charming everyone. His dad and grandpa are fishing, this lake is apparently great for it and they've been coming to it for 20 odd years!
So, we eat up and they invite us over the craic is good and we all get on great! Matts got the guitar out for a bit and then the lads invite him out on the lake to do some fishing and chew tobacco - needless to say the tobacco doesn't agree with him at all but he jumps at the chance to use one of their boats, fishing gear and tackle. Matts rows out and sits on the lake for a good hour, no bites sadly but he's loving it and as the sunsets that lake is a sight to behold - it's an orange red sunset reflected in the water - it's stunning!
We have a couple of drinks and crash - been a great day!
