Oh yes, we look quite cheerful on the walk out of Lisbon. This is Roger with Catherine of Briganza who I think introduced tea to the uk when she married one of our kings. But it was downhill from there on. Torrential rain and a walk along the river Tagus which turned into an SAS assault course. Fell into deep mud twice and swearing was only kept to a minimum as we met three other pilgrims - an Australian women journalist, elderly American man who makes films and a crazy young Polish chef. They all met last year and decided they wanted to travel a again. Good company and kept us going through a terrible few hours. It stopped raining after a lunch where Roger had two huge glasses of the local cherry drink known as Ginji. We emptied our boots of water and set of again, only to walk through another swamp. The last two hours we walked through a beautiful nature reserve and finally reached our humble hotel at 7. Our boots won't be dry for days and my socks need throwing away. Cheered up dinner at the local place acros the road. Two beers, three course dinner with fresh fish, one litre of vinho verde and a coffee for 17 euros. That's for both of us, so left a big tip. Left us feeling very perplexed about Brexit...especially as the next table had six local policemen fully armed drinking wine too. Lots of aches in the back and hips which is due to carrying a back pack for the first time in a while. Our bedroom is steaming.....but with wet clothes and that's absoltuely all.
