De Grey River to 80 Mile Beach
Sunny, very windy mornings til about 2pm. 28 degrees.
Slept in this morning until about 9. Most of the vans had already pulled out of the site by this time, but there were about five left. We left about 11.00 for the trip up to 80 mile beach.
Most of the landscape today was quite flat and very windy. Not good for the fuel economy!! But there were miles of wattle trees just coming into flower... Another week or two and it would have been a sea of yellow flowers!
We arrived at 80 mile beach about 1pm. After setting up we went for a long walk along the beach for a couple of hours. The shells there are amazing. The beach is covered in shells, and they are beautiful. Brightly coloured, yellows, oranges, pinks, purples. And all shapes and sizes. We have collected quite a few!!!
We then watched the amazing sunset! Just beautiful!! Lovely relaxing day. We are very happy that we have decided to make the detour here. It will be good to relax for a couple of days.
So the next day we spent some time just relaxing, I read for a while. Lauri went for a very long walk down the beach collecting even more shells! And late in the afternoon we met up with the people nearby for "happy hour". Lovely people.. A couple from the Sunshine Coast, a couple from Lakes Entrance and a young Dutch couple with their 3 year old daughter and 6 week old son! Yes this family are travelling Australia with their newborn! They left when he was only 4 weeks old! Amazing! Not sure I could have done it!
The following day was much the same... Long walk on the beach, reading, relaxing. And another beautiful sunset. And happy hour again, but by now the young Dutch family had left!
Good to have a few days of relaxing. We have really enjoyed it. The only thing about here is that it is so windy for the first few hours of the day. But later in the afternoon it calms down and is very pleasant.
