Walking and riding around the villages...
We have spent the past couple of days riding and walking around the villages. Yesterday we rode for quite a few kilometres down to Taling Ngam and back. Very easy riding though. All flat. Later we took the scooter down to the end of the beach here, where the water is a lot deeper when the tide is a bit low. Water there is also very clear. Up here is not as good as it is very shallow at times and depending on the wind some days the water is great and other times not so. Can get a lot of rubbish coming in sometimes because we are at the end of the bay I think. We took a couple of drinks there and had a long swim. Then just before dark we went to the "Think Cafe" for dinner. We sat outside on the beach there and had a cocktail and dinner was just served when suddenly it started to pour! We really didn't see that coming and neither did anyone else. We all had to grab our food and drink and run into the shelter - which is actually shipping containers because all the buildings at the cafe are made up of them! And painted these really bright colours- green, blue, yellow. All very quirky!
Today we went for a very long walk in the backstreets of the village here. It was great to be out of the tourist areas and being where the local people live. We ended up taking what we thought would be a short cut back... But when we got to the end of the track, which was across the road from the villas, we discovered that the river was there! And they are in the process of building a bridge there but a long way off as yet. So we had to turn around and go all the way back around which added quite a few km to our walk! Oh well we needed the exercise anyway!
We ate at home again tonight - chicken and salad. My stomach is still a bit iffy lately and I thought I needed a break from Thai food and something much plainer. Got a couple of salads from Tesco for B30 each - $1 And the chicken cost B125. About $4. Only ate half so it all cost about $2.50 for is both!! With a glass or two of wine and it was all delicious!!
After dinner Oliver, Petra and Paul came over for a drink as it was their last night before leaving for Bangkok tomorrow. They are lovely people and we have swapped email addresses with them. Who knows maybe we will visit them one day on Munich!!
