Ian & Claire's Adventure
G'Day
We arrived in Oz after only a 3 hr flight, to brisbane where we met up with Ste' and Zarina, we had lunch and a chat and then got another flight up to Cairns.
We chose to stay a little out of town in a quiet small hostel called Ryans Rest, it was really nice, the owner is great and it has a little pool to cool off, the temperature is up in the mid-thirties and very humid.
We spent a few days wandering around town, they have built a lagoon which is a big outdoor swimming pool with places to sunbathe, free showers etc as the beach isnt nice they needed to keep people here a bit longer as they were coming, going to the great barrier reef then leaving. Cairns is really nice, great asian food courts to eat really cheap great food, and of course smoothies....
There's the sea and behind you big rainforrest mountains, its really chilled out.
We planned some of our trip and decided to go on a special dive trip, instead of going to the barrier reef which is quite crowded on a big luxury boat with 40 odd people all doing courses etc we decided to do a trip 16 hours out to sea with 14 other experienced divers to some of the most untouched and life abundent reefs called Holmes Reef.
We then organised to hire a cheap camper for a month to see the coast and inlasnd from Cairns to Sydney as we just couldnt warrant buying a vehicle or renting for longer.
