Ian & Claire's Adventure
We arrived in Bundaburg and went to the tourist information place to find out about the turtle viewings. We had a very stressful 20mins being harrassed by two extrememly odd people in there who said yes there are viewings but most people like to see the rum factory! erh!?
After escaping we headed down to Mon Repos a small beachside nature reserve with a campsite next to the place where they take you to see turtles laying eggs on the beach. We played in the waves again, Ian was jealous of a small boy with a boogie board.
That night we queud up for our group allocation and the wait until the turtles came onto the beach. After 2 1/2 hrs of hanging around and filling in by the rangers we got the call. We walked quietly in the dark onto the beach in a group of 40 people to see our turtle. We stayed with it for a long time,it had dug its nest, it layed about 100 eggs and then we followed it back down to the water. Next was very exciting, one other turtle had layed too close to the sea so the rangers dug them a new rest further up and we helped carry the eggs to the new nest!.
photos follow later on
ps Claire also has gone troppo.....
